Georgia State Takes On West Georgia In Midweek Matchup
After being swept to start conference play for the first time since 2017, Georgia State will look to get in the win column once more and snap a five-game losing streak when they take on the University of West Georgia in a midweek contest. The Panthers have a short history with West Georgia at the Division I level, splitting their first-ever home-and-home series since the Wolves made the move up. Georgia State is one win away from their 1,000th win in program history, but does trail the all-time series against West Georgia with a record of 5-12-1.
This game was supposed to mark the first of an eight-game stretch that Georgia State would be playing at home; instead, the Panthers will head to Carrollton and West Georgia will play host. This flips their April 14th matchup into a home game for Georgia State per the baseball team’s ‘X’ account.

The Panthers had a chance to salvage the last game of the series against Marshall after jumping out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the second inning, spearheaded by a three RBI double by sophomore catcher Hunter Carlson. Senior right-hander Cole Roberts got through the first two innings allowing only a single extra-base hit and striking out one.
Marshall’s Tyler Kramer would cut into the Panthers’ lead with a two-run homer into left field to cut the lead down 6-2. A grand slam by Evan Bottone tied the game and in the next inning, Roberts was lifted after four innings of work, having let up six runs and earning a no-decision.
After Marshall walked home a couple of runs, Jack Smith’s three-RBI double would finish off a five-run seventh inning and push the game out of reach for the Panthers.
West Georgia also started their conference schedule over the weekend against Jacksonville University, winning the first two games of the series but dropping the finale after letting up five runs in the top of the 10th inning.
After taking a 2-2 tie into the seventh inning, an RBI single by Roger Vergara would break the stalemate, followed by a sacrifice fly out from Sam Grunberg, which scored another Dolphins run to push them ahead 4-2.
The Wolves would strike back in the bottom of the inning by walking home two runs and taking the lead away from Jacksonville after a Patrick McCullough sacrifice fly out of his own.
Another RBI single by Jacksonville’s Roger Vergara tied the game right back up again in the top of the eighth inning at five runs a piece and would force extra innings.
An RBI double by Archer Ogbourne would kick off a five-run top of the tenth inning for Jacksonville and the Dolphins would go on to salvage the final game of the series.
