Georgia State struck first in the second inning with an RBI single into left field by infielder Carter Bailey, picking up his first hit since March 7th and giving the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.
Brady McDevitt would break a slump of his own in the West Georgia half of the second inning, tying the game and recording his first RBI since February 13th against Central Michigan.
A go-ahead RBI triple by sophomore first baseman Willis Maginnis in the top of the third inning would spark the offense to score six unanswered runs over the next four innings, capped off by sophomore catcher Hunter Carlson’s third home run of the season in the sixth inning to put the Panthers up 7-2.
The triple by Maginnis gave Georgia State their ninth triple of the year so far, putting them 4th in all of Division I baseball.
West Georgia reached base with back-to-back batters in the bottom of the seventh inning and cashing in an RBI double from Brady McDevitt, notching his first multi-RBI game of the year.
Senior right-handed pitcher Will Bartoski started the game for the Panthers, tallying two strikeouts and one earned run before being replaced after an inning and a half of work.
Freshman lefty Hunter Atkins would come into the game and pitch the next four innings, racking up three strikeouts and picking up the win.
Georgia State will be back in action this weekend when they play host to the Arkansas State Red Wolves, kicking off a seven game homestand for the Panthers.
