Georgia Southern Inks Extension With Charlie Henry
Georgia Southern has announced it has signed men’s basketball head coach Charlie Henry to a contract extension.
Henry’s contract was set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, but the four-year extension keeps him in Statesboro through the 2029-30 season.
The Eagles are coming off an impressive season, reaching 20-plus wins for the first time in seven years. In the regular season, Georgia Southern finished with 17 wins and went 8-10 in conference play before finishing with a 21-16 record after the conference tournament.
The Eagles made a run in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, playing six games in as many days to reach the championship game, where they fell to Troy.
Georgia Southern hired Henry before the start of the 2023-24 season, and his first stint as a college head coach started rough, going 0-13 in nonconference play. The Eagles did come on strong in conference play, going 8-10 and finishing with a 9-24 record.
In his second season in 2024-25, the Eagles showed improvement, but not as much as expected after the strong end to year one. Henry led Georgia Southern to a 17-16 record and an 8-10 mark in conference play, matching the same conference record in each of his first three seasons.
Before arriving at Georgia Southern, Henry spent four seasons as an assistant on Nate Oats’ staff at Alabama. He began his coaching career with Oats at Romulus High School. He also spent time as an assistant at Iowa State, with the Chicago Bulls, and as head coach of the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League.
With his future now set in Statesboro, Henry will turn his attention to recruiting and the transfer portal as he looks to build on last season’s roster.
