Devontre Chaney Commits to App State
Georgia Gwinnett College transfer Devontre Chaney has announced his commitment to App State, per his social media.
Chaney is coming off an impressive junior season at the NAIA level, where he averaged 15.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting nearly 57% from the field. He made an immediate impact to open the 2025-26 season, recording a triple-double in his first game with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
He went on to earn Conference Player of the Year honors, along with being named a Second Team NAIA All-American and earning NABC All-Region recognition. Chaney also helped lead Georgia Gwinnett to a program-record 25 wins, playing a key role on both ends of the floor throughout the season.
Prior to his time at Georgia Gwinnett, Chaney spent a season at Palm Beach State College (JUCO), where he averaged 15.6 points, nine rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. He earned All-NJCAA Region 8 honors and was named to the Division II All-FCSAA team for his performance.
Chaney began his college career during the 2023-24 season at Spoon River Community College in Illinois. As a freshman, he averaged 14.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
At 6-foot-5, Chaney brings a unique skill set with the ability to play both on the ball and on the wing. His versatility will be valuable for App State as it looks to replace multiple key departures. His ability to handle the ball and facilitate offense helps fill the void left by Alonzo Dodd, Jalen Tot and Jason Clarke Jr., while his size and rebounding ability allow him to slot in on the wing in place of the transferring Tre McKinnon, as well as all-conference selection Kasen Jennings.
With multiple years of production at different levels, Chaney arrives in Boone as a proven and experienced addition who can impact the game in a variety of ways. He is the first commit this transfer portal cycle for head coach Dustin Kerns, and will also arrive in Boone with one year of eligibility remaining.
