Coastal Carolina Rides Sweep Ahead of Rematch With Campbell
No. 16 Coastal Carolina will travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to take on Campbell for the second time this season on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Chanticleers came out on top in a 13–7 back-and-forth win over the Camels on Feb. 24, recording a season-high 16 hits in the process. Riding the momentum of a weekend series sweep over rival Appalachian State, the offense will look to stay hot and secure a regular-season sweep of Campbell.

In the Friday night series opener, Coastal built a 6–0 lead with a six-run surge across the sixth and seventh innings. Walker Mitchell and Colby Thorndyke opened the sixth with back-to-back singles before Rex Watson launched his team-leading fourth home run of the season over the left-center field wall to give the Chanticleers a 3–0 advantage.
Domenico Tozzi later added an RBI single to score Blagen Pado and extend the lead to 4–0. Blake Barthol followed in the seventh with a two-run home run for his first of the season, to push the margin to 6–0.
Appalachian State rallied late, scoring six runs within the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at 6–6, but Coastal answered with a four-run ninth to secure the 10-6 win.
Coastal Carolina rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Appalachian State 7–4 on Saturday afternoon, securing the Sun Belt Conference series victory.
Down 4–3 entering the ninth, the Chanticleers wasted no time getting started. Brice Estep put the ball in play and forced a miscue from the App State third baseman, allowing Jordan Taylor to come home from third and even the score at 4–4
Two batters later, Dean Mihos delivered the decisive blow with an RBI single to center field, bringing home Estep and giving Coastal its first lead of the afternoon.
The Chanticleers added insurance when Trace Mazon launched a two-run home run to extend the lead to 7–4, capping a four-run ninth inning for the second game in a row.
Graduate reliever Ryan Lynch made his first appearance of the season after coming off an injury. Lynch, a 2026 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference and Second-Team All-American, according to D1Baseball, secured his first win of the season, allowing one hit through an inning.
In the series finale, App State jumped out to a 5–0 lead through the first three innings before Coastal began to chip away in the fourth. The Chanticleers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Ty Barrango that brought home Jordan Taylor and Blagen Pado to trim the deficit to one. Barrango finished the day with three hits and two RBIs
Coastal took its first lead of the game in the seventh inning, plating three runs to go in front 7–5. Appalachian State responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to even the score at 7–7, setting up late-inning drama.
In the eighth, Walker Mitchell delivered the go-ahead hit—his fourth of the game—to lift the Chanticleers to an 8–7 victory over Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon, completing a three-game sweep in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Camels are 10-9 overall, coming off an explosive 13-3 win over Duke on Tuesday night, where they tallied 13 hits, highlighted by a six-run fifth inning.
The surge began when Logan Chapman ignited the inning with a leadoff single, setting the stage for Joey Morton to blast a two-run home run to right field for his fourth of the season.
The momentum continued two batters later as Andrew Keller doubled, eventually reaching third after a pair of walks before scoring on a wild pitch. Joe Simpson kept the pressure on with a two-RBI single before scoring himself on a Duke defensive miscue to extend the lead, 9-2.
The Camels closed the door early in the eighth inning, as Chapman continued his dominant performance at the plate, launching his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, before Keller walked it off with a two-RBI double to left center.
Chapman reached base in every at-bat, going 4-for-4, including a pair of base hits, a double, a home run and four runs scored.
Keller, Murphy, and Simpson each turned in multi-hit performances. Keller and Simpson both drove in two runs, while Keller also added a pair of extra-base hits.
Mason Smith turned in a strong outing on the mound, working 3.0 innings while allowing just one hit and recording a season-high seven strikeouts. Beau Brailey (2–0) earned the win in relief, tossing the final 2.1 innings and giving up only two hits while striking out three. Owen Simmons also delivered a solid performance, allowing two runs on two hits and adding a pair of strikeouts over 2.2 innings of work
With both teams coming off strong performances, Wednesday’s matchup sets the stage for another competitive midweek battle. Coastal Carolina will look to carry its momentum from a series sweep over Appalachian State into Buies Creek, while Campbell aims to build off its explosive win over Duke. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. as the Chanticleers go for the season sweep over the Camels.
