Georgia State Takes Series Opener At Home
Georgia State takes game one of their weekend series against Arkansas State, beating the Red Wolves 5-2 on Friday night in Atlanta. The Panthers picked up their first conference win of the season and snapped a three-game losing streak against Arkansas State dating back to last season.
Senior outfielder Evan Griffins extended his hitting streak to three games with an RBI single, the Stetson transfer putting the Red Wolves in front by one at the top of the first inning.

Cason Campbell of the Red Wolves would score in the sixth inning off a throwing error by third baseman Carter Bailey, his second straight game with an error and fourth on the season. The score was now 2-1 in favor of Arkansas State, who are ranked 20th in RPI coming into this matchup.
Shortstop Austin Sellers would step into the box in the bottom of the seventh inning, plating his sixth and seventh of the season off a base hit into right field. The sophomore’s timely hitting put Georgia State out in front for the first time and forced the Red Wolves to pull Richter from the game after 6 1/3 innings of work.
The graduate left-handed pitcher allowed three runs off of four hits and reached seven strikeouts for the fourth time this season; he would also be credited with the loss.
Cole Griffith’s two-run double in the next inning would add some insurance for the Panthers and push the game out of reach for Arkansas State, giving the series-opening victory to Georgia State.
Junior right-hander Tysen Benford got the start for the Panthers and allowed two runs, one unearned, off of seven hits over six innings of work. Junior righty Michael Caruso came into the game in the seventh and threw two scoreless innings, only allowing one walk en-route to his second win of the season.
Georgia State is back at it again for game two of this three-game series with the Red Wolves at 3:00 p.m. EST.
