After a 2-2 road trip, the Georgia State Panthers head back to Atlanta for some home cooking as they prepare to take on the Terriers in a midweek clash. Despite breaking even in the win/lose category, Georgia State improved their conference record and rose slightly in the Sun Belt standings.
Wofford is also 2-2 in the last week, dropping their most recent midweek game to South Carolina but taking the series against SoCon opponent VMI. The Terriers are sitting comfortably atop the SoCon standings with a 5-1 conference record, losing their only conference game in extra innings to VMI over the weekend.
The Georgia State offense has been producing in a big way over the last week, scoring 40 runs over their last four games. Willis Maginnis headlines the production for the Panthers, holding onto a 13-game hit streak and racking up seven hits over his last four games. The sophomore infielder has tallied seven hits with five RBIs and five runs in the last week, making him a top contributor for the Panthers.
Georgia State’s pitching staff has been very lackluster this season, sitting at the bottom of Division I baseball with a team ERA of 6.26. Out of the sixteen pitchers who have thrown three or more innings for the Panthers, 15 of them have an ERA of 5+.
Probable starter Hunter Atkins got the start in Georgia State’s last midweek against No. 4 ranked Georgia and tossed 4 1/3 innings with three runs off three hits, striking out five.
Terriers senior outfielder Niko Brini holds a top five spot in two separate offensive categories in the SoCon, sitting at fourth in total runs with 40 and 43 hits. Brini leads the team in extra base hits and has the second-highest batting average on the Terriers with a .355 this season.
The Wofford pitching staff boasts a 4.66 team ERA, ranking them just outside the top-50 in all of Division I baseball at 53rd. Probable starter John Gray started the last two midweek games for the Terriers, most recently against South Carolina. Gray only lasted 1 2/3 innings against the SEC team, charged with two runs off four hits and striking out five.
Georgia State and Wofford have a short history, having faced off only three times before this matchup and not having met since 2023. Wofford got the win 7-2 last time these two programs faced off, but Georgia State leads the all-time series 2-1.
