Southern Miss vs Kent State
Isaac Taveras scored four of his 16 points in the final 25 seconds, including two free throws, to lift Southern Miss to a 66-65 victory over Kent State in the second leg of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Saturday night at Reed Green Coliseum
Playing for the first time since suffering an injury on Dec. 18, Taveras came off the bench and helped the Golden Eagles rally from a nine-point deficit with seven minutes remaining. Southern Miss (13-13) handed Kent State (17-7) its second loss in three games.
Taveras went 5-of-7 from the floor and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the second half. His effort keyed a 20-9 bench-scoring advantage for the Golden Eagles.

Djahi Binet led Southern Miss with 17 points, while Tylik Weeks recorded his second double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. His previous high was 10 against Ole Miss earlier in the season.

Dylan Brumfield also posted a career night on the glass. The senior guard scored six points on 1-of-3 shooting and grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds. He recorded 10 rebounds twice during his first season at NAIA program William Carey in 2023-24.
Kent State led 34-30 at halftime and limited Southern Miss to 26.7% shooting (8-of-30) in the second half. The Golden Eagles went just 1-of-10 from 3-point range after the break.

Rob Whaley Jr., Delrecco Gillespie and Cian Medley each scored 15 points for the Golden Flashes, but Kent State struggled at the free-throw line, shooting 8-of-18 (44.4%).
Southern Miss returns to Sun Belt play on Thursday, hosting South Alabama as it looks to reach .500. Kent State returns home to face Eastern Michigan in Mid-American Conference action, looking for their ninth victory.
