Texas State Drubs Georgia State In Series Opener
Georgia State is left licking their wounds after a big inning from Texas State leads to an 18-6 Bobcat victory that only took seven innings.
Tysen Bedford took to the mound for the Panthers to kick off the weekend against Texas State, holding onto a 3.00 ERA and coming off a win against Arkansas State in his last outing.
The Bobcats got the scoring started with a two-run home run by Ethan Farris in the second inning, two more solo home runs by Chase Mora and Clayton Namken would go on to knock Bedford out of the game after only two and one-third innings of work.
The solo home run from Chase Mora gave him his fourth of the season and thirty-fourth of his Texas State career, only two shy of tying Paul Goldschmidt’s career program record of thirty-six.
In the home half of the second inning, the Panthers began to crawl back and chip away at the 4-0 Bobcat lead. Georgia State broke the ice on a sacrifice groundout to the pitcher by Lucus Grantham which scored Austin Killingsworth to notch his eleventh RBI of the season.
Later in the inning, Austin Sellers would rip a single up the left side to score two runs of his own to make the score 4-3 and put the Panthers within striking distance of the Bobcats. This would be the closest Georgia State would be to Texas State for the remainder of the game.
Texas State would shell the Panthers in the third and fourth innings, scoring thirteen unanswered runs and five different players going long on the Georgia State pitching staff. Sophomore Ethan Farris would swing the hottest bat of the night, going 5-for-5 in his at bats with two home runs and five RBIs for the Bobcats.
Georgia State will be back in action today at home as they look to even the series against Texas State.
