ULM Moves On From Head Coach Phil Cunningham After One Season
After one season at the helm of the Warhawks, ULM has announced that it has parted ways with head coach Phil Cunningham. Assistant Derrick Zimmerman will take on the interim role as the program searches for its next coach.
In his lone season in Monroe, Cunningham led the Warhawks to a 4-28 record and a 1-15 mark in conference play. Only two of those four wins were against Division I opponents.

Prior to becoming the head coach, Cunningham was an assistant at ULM for one season. Before that, he was an associate head coach at Western Kentucky for five seasons.
Cunningham had previously been the head coach of a Division I program once in his career, that being with Troy in the Sun Belt Conference. Over his six seasons with the Trojans, Cunningham led Troy to an 80-111 record and a 39-73 mark in Sun Belt play.
He did lead the Trojans to March Madness in the 2016-17 season. Troy entered the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed that season and defeated the fourth seeded Texas State Bobcats in the conference championship game. The Trojans went on to lose to Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his first head coaching job, Cunningham was a longtime assistant in college basketball, completing stints at James Madison, Georgia State, Mississippi State and Western Kentucky.
ULM announced that a national search is underway to replace Cunningham as the head coach of the men’s basketball program.
