The Chanticleers are 5-0 in bowl clinching games since 2019 and are looking to extend that streak this weekend
Georgia State will head to the beach this weekend and face a scorching-hot Coastal Carolina team in Conway in a divisional matchup.
The Panthers are still seeking their first conference win of the season.
The Chanticleers are 5-0 in bowl clinching games since 2019 and are looking to extend that streak this weekend. Georgia State has never lost to Coastal Carolina on the road, holding a 4-0 record in Brooks Stadium.
Georgia State
The Panthers are coming off the bye week after a close loss to South Alabama knocked them out of bowl contention for the second straight season.
The emergence of junior quarterback Cameran Brown has been a bright spot this season for Georgia State. In his first two starts this season, Brown has a 67.6% completion rate while throwing 521 passing yards with five touchdown passes and adding 188 yards on the ground.
Ted Hurst has been having a huge season, tallying 47 receptions for 689 yards and five touchdowns. Hurst is on pace to eclipse his totals from last season where he earned All-Sun Belt Second-Team Offense honors in his first season with Georgia State.
The Panthers come into the game with the 49th-ranked passing offense in FBS and may opt to keep the ball in the air against the Chanticleers defense, which ranks 69th in FBS for passing yards allowed.
Georgia State will lean on junior linebacker Josiah Robinson and junior defensive tackle Bishop Thomas to bottle up the Chanticleer rushing attack. Robinson leads the team in tackles this season with 61 (28 solo) while Thomas is tied for the team lead in sacks (1.5) and has 12 solo tackles.
Coastal Carolina
Despite a rough start to the season with rumors starting to swirl of a Tim Beck buyout, the Chanticleers find themselves with a 5-3 record and are 4-1 in conference play. After being buried on the depth chart to start the season, Coastal Carolina’s offense has excelled behind senior quarterback Samari Collier.
Collier is expected to start his third game of the season.
The senior has struggled through the air thus far, posting a 51.2% completion rate with 314 passing yards and three passing touchdowns to two interceptions. He has been productive on the ground, however, with back-to-back 70+ rushing yard games and four rushing touchdowns.
The Chanticleer rushing attack notched their third-straight game of 200+ rushing yards last week and has been a force over the last two games, combining for 525 rushing yards with five touchdowns as a unit. Coastal Carolina ranks 49th in FBS for rushing offense and may favor keeping the ball on the ground against Georgia State, who is ranked near the bottom at 129th.
Coastal Carolina’s “Soul Collectors” will look to continue their second half dominance behind the production of junior defensive end Zeke Campbell and super senior linebacker Shane Bruce. Campbell leads the team in sacks this season with five and Bruce, who has missed the last two games, is tied for the most interceptions on the team with two.
