Gage Lattimore commits to James Madison
James Madison has landed a commitment from North Carolina Central transfer guard Gage Lattimore.
Lattimore, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Greensboro, North Carolina, averaged 16.6 points per game this season in his first year at the Division I level. He also added 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while shooting 39% from the field and 39.2% from deep.
He is not an unfamiliar face to James Madison fans, as his Eagles faced the Dukes this season. In a 67-62 win for James Madison in December, Lattimore scored 29 points and hit five 3-pointers to keep NC Central in the game. In addition to that performance, Lattimore scored a career-high 38 points in a win over Bluefield State in the third game of the season. He also posted 25 points against Virginia and 20 against NC State.
His analytics also stand out. Lattimore played 36.1 minutes per game this season, accounting for more than 89% of available minutes, ranking among the top 35 nationally, according to KenPom. His 86.7% free-throw percentage also ranked well within the top 100 in the country.
Before joining NC Central, Lattimore spent his freshman season at Seton Hill, a Division II program. He appeared in 27 games, averaging 10.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.9% from the field and 42% from 3-point range.
Lattimore becomes the first transfer addition for the Dukes, and likely won’t be the last as James Madison lost nearly its entire roster from last season. The only returning players currently include Paul Jones III and Preston Fowler. Lattimore arrives with two years of eligibility remaining.
