CWS Bracketology
Syndicate Sports is getting into the bracketology business, starting with the Road to Omaha.
To determine the field, we used Warren Nolan and averaged the RPI and ELO rankings to establish the overall seeds. Any movement up or down a seed line was made to ensure that two teams of the same conference are not placed in the same regional, in accordance to NCAA rules.
The regions are sorted by the region they would face in the super regionals. For example, the No. 1 seed is paired with the No. 16 seed.
All team records are based on the completion of games on April 12. Teams underlined are the current projected automatic bid from their conference.

UCF dropped to the bottom of the regional No. 2 seeds after getting swept by Kansas last weekend.

- Mississippi State (#16) (26-10, 7-8) vs Southeastern Louisiana (23-14, 12-6)
- West Virginia (24-8, 10-5) vs UC San Diego (15-16, 11-4)
Mississippi State dropped to No. 16 after losing six straight conference games, being swept by unranked Tennessee this past weekend. Southeastern Louisiana takes the Southland automatic bid, due to a series win over Northwestern State back in the end of February.
Tuscaloosa Regional
- Alabama (#8) (26-11, 8-7) vs New Mexico (22-12-1, 8-3-1)
- Southern Miss (25-11, 8-7) vs Kansas State (23-13, 7-8)
Alabama dropped four spots after the weekend sweep by Arkansas. Kansas State entered the field this week after taking two of three against Oklahoma State. New Mexico took over the Mountain West automatic bid after a sweep of San Diego State.
Auburn Regional
- Auburn (#9) (24-11, 8-7) vs Bethune-Cookman (25-11, 12-3)
- Jacksonville State (29-8, 13-2) vs NC State (24-12, 8-7)
NC State continued to be in the last four in, dropping one spot in the overall ranking. The Wolfpack saw their six-game winning streak ended with a loss to Duke on Sunday. This marks the worst conference loss for NC State, with the rest coming against teams in the top 30 of RPI.
Corvallis Regional
- Oregon State (#5) (28-7) vs SIU-Edwardsville (19-16, 10-2)
- Boston College (26-12, 11-7) vs East Carolina (22-14-1, 7-5)
East Carolina dropped to a regional No. 3 seed after losing two of three to Tulane this past weekend. With the exception of a 1-0 loss to Penn on March 14, this was the worst weekend series the Pirates had in the season.
Oxford Regional
- Ole Miss (#12) (26-11, 8-7) vs Winthrop (23-13, 7-2)
- Miami (27-9, 8-7) vs Gonzaga (20-14, 9-3)
Gonzaga took over the automatic bid of the West Coast Conference from San Francisco thanks to a better RPI. The Bulldogs look to finish its tenure in the WCC with its fifth bid in the past ten tournaments.
Gainesville Regional
- Florida (#4) (27-10, 9-6) vs Bucknell (20-14, 13-3)
- Wake Forest (24-13, 9-9) vs Cincinnati (24-14, 6-9)
Florida defeated in-state rival Florida State, while taking two of three against Georgia, allowing the Gators to move up to No. 4 overall. Cincinnati entered the field after defeating Miami (OH) and taking two of three against Baylor.
Athens Regional
- Georgia (#13) (29-8, 11-4) vs Oral Roberts (20-13, 11-1)
- Virginia (26-11, 10-8) vs California Baptist (29-7, 4-2)
Virginia dropped from hosting a regional to a No. 2 seed due to a loss against James Madison.
Chapel Hill Regional
- North Carolina (#6) (30-6-1, 13-5) vs Rider (19-11, 14-4)
- Liberty (25-10, 11-4) vs TCU (21-14, 8-7)
The debate is whether Conference USA should have more bids than the Sun Belt. Liberty has played 21 games against teams with a RPI of 100 or better, one more than Texas State.
The point in Liberty’s favor is that none of the games were against Quad 3 opponents, while Texas State played nine non-conference Quad 3 games. TCU dropped to a regional No. 3 seed due to dropping two of three against Arizona.
Tallahassee Regional
- Florida State (#11) (24-11, 9-6) vs Binghamton (17-13, 9-3)
- Tennessee (24-12, 7-8) vs UAB (23-13, 8-4)
The top two seed of this regional are going in opposite directions. Florida State dropped six seeds after going winless in four games last week against Florida and Georgia Tech. The final two games against the Yellow Jackets were blowouts. Tennessee, on the other hand, moved to a regional No. 2 seed due to a sweep of Mississippi State.
Austin Regional
- Texas (#3) (27-7, 9-5) vs Yale (19-10, 9-3)
- Missouri State (24-10, 12-3) vs Arizona State (26-11, 9-6)
Dropping two games to Texas A&M led Texas to dropping one seed to No. 3 overall. Missouri State continues to moved up the RPI chart, boasting the 16th best RPI in the nation thanks to a tough non-conference schedule. Arizona State dropped an mid-week game to UNLV and the series opener to Utah, both teams ranked lower in RPI, that led to the Sun Devils dropping to a regional No. 3 seed.
Los Angeles Regional (USC)
- USC (#14) (30-7, 13-5) vs Wright State (17-15, 11-1)
- Kentucky (25-10, 7-8) vs Kent State (25-9, 13-5)
USC ended a four-game losing streak this weekend, sweeping Iowa to prevent an exit from hosting a regional. Kentucky has alternated wins and losses in its previous eight contest, failing to win a SEC weekend series since sweeping Alabama in mid-March.
Conway Regional
- Coastal Carolina (#7) (26-9, 13-2) vs North Florida (20-15, 12-3)
- Arkansas (24-13) vs Clemson (23-14, 5-10)
The Conway region has several teams on the rise. Coastal Carolina moved up from No. 11 last week, thanks to a mid-week neutral site victory over Wake Forest and winning two out of three against Arkansas State.
Arkansas moved up to a regional No. 2 seed due to a sweep of Alabama, while Clemson entered the field despite dropping two of three against North Carolina.
College Station Regional
- Texas A&M (#10) (27-7, 9-5) vs St. John’s (17-18, 5-1)
- Nebraska (27-9, 12-3) vs Saint Joseph’s (23-11, 14-1)
A home loss to Kansas and losing two of three to Oregon dropped Nebraska several slots in the overall seeding. While still at regional No. 2 seed, they now get paired with a Texas A&M squad that moved up after a two-game sweep of Texas.
Atlanta Regional
- Georgia Tech (#2) (30-5, 15-3) vs Indiana State (18-18, 8-4)
- Oregon (26-10, 10-5) vs UC Santa Barbara (22-11, 10-5)
Indiana State sits tied with Evansville in the Missouri Valley, getting the automatic bid based on a better RPI since the two schools have yet to face off. The Sycamores have three victories over teams with a RPI under 100, including wins over Purdue and Illinois.
Lawrence Regional
- Kansas (#15) (26-10, 12-3) vs Wofford (25-11, 8-1)
- Oklahoma (24-11, 7-8) vs Campbell (23-12, 16-2)
Kansas continued its winning ways this past week, defeating Nebraska and sweeping UCF to extend its winning streak to 10 games. This would move the Jayhawks up to hosting a regional for the first time ever.
